As the Labor Day weekend gets closer, the Wisconsin DNR reminds everyone to practice safe boating.
Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to come to Wisconsin for fishing and recreation, and safety is one of the DNR’s top priorities.
So far, there have been twelve boating-related fatalities in the Badger state, and in many cases, the people who died were not wearing a life jacket.
Department of Natural Resources officials remind everyone to wear a life jacket whenever possible, stay sober while boating, and know their limits before heading out.
It’s also recommended to check the weather forecast before going out and make sure that boat drivers aren’t distracted while out.
More information can be found on the DNR’s boating safety website at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
