The City of Kiel is holding off on revising its budget after an extensive talk about where the money would be going.
The Kiel Business District Board approved a proposal to transfer $8,000 in funds to the Kiel River Walk District, which was then to be voted on by the full city council.
However, 4th District Alder Kathy Schuette, who’s on board, said that she was concerned that there wasn’t a list of items for which the money was being spent, since it’s using tax dollars.
There were other claims made about the riverwalk district, including that a bid between the committee and the district was never renewed.
The council took no action on the item after the discussion.
City Administrator Dave Funkhouser said he will hold some meetings to discuss.
The Kiel River Walk District is an area of downtown on Fremont Street, as well as a portion of Highway 67, Water Street, and 7th Street.
The organization is designed to bring businesses together to complete the process of becoming one of Wisconsin’s Connect Communities, a program through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
To find out more information about the discussion the council had, the meeting can be found on the city’s YouTube channel.
