Residents have been displaced following a fire in De Pere.
De Pere Fire Rescue received a call yesterday (August 27th) reporting a structure fire in the 1100 block of Scheuring Road at approximately 5:45 a.m.
Fire crews arrived on scene to discover a one-story duplex with an active fire showing visible smoke coming from the garage and all sides of the attic.
An exterior attack on the flames was initiated while other firefighters made entry to the home to ensure all occupants had safely evacuated.
Thanks to the use of roughly 1,000 gallons of water, the blaze was extinguished; however, the residents of the duplex have been displaced.
No injuries were reported, but it is estimated that the fire caused approximately $150,000 in damage.
The Brown County Fire Investigation Team was called in to assist in determining the cause of the fire, but it remains under investigation.
De Pere Fire Rescue suspects it may have been caused by a lithium-ion battery, which can catch fire or explode if damaged or not used properly.
Assisting fire units on the scene included Lawrence, Hobart, Ashwaubenon, Morrison, and County Rescue.
