The Kiel Police Department is upgrading its squad cars.
In a recent Facebook post, the department announced that they have obtained Computer-aided dispatch software.
This software helps officers receive calls, log incidents, and assist dispatchers in directing police to where they are needed.
Officers now receive dispatches on their computers and get updates as dispatchers enter them, instead of waiting for open radio time.
The new system also offers mapping capabilities to help officers find addresses outside city limits.
It provides officers with an alternative means of communication with dispatchers if they are unable to use their radios.
The West Foundation provided an endowment to the Kiel Police Department for the software system.
