Madison authorities say they will soon clear a homeless encampment located outside the Wisconsin Veterans’ Museum.
Officials cited ongoing issues such as shoplifting, public harassment, and the dumping of human waste in the State Street area as reasons for the move.
The director of Madison Street Medicine expressed concern, saying the city urgently needs more affordable housing to support those impacted.
With the Dairy Drive encampment also scheduled to close next month, housing advocates fear additional strain on the local homeless population.
