The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) has announced the cause of a fatal plane crash during the 2023 EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.
According to the report, “the pilot’s failure to maintain airspeed while maneuvering resulted in the exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack and an aerodynamic stall and spin.”
According to the NTSB report, the airplane departed from a runway at AirVenture before making a right turn toward the north.
The flight path took it over Lake Winnebago, where the plane reached an altitude of about 3,900 feet before descending into the lake.
The plane broke apart into multiple pieces upon impact with the lake, with parts sinking to the bottom.
FOX11 reports that Devyn Reiley and Zach Colliemoreno were the two killed in the crash.
The plane was a T6 Texan.
