A teenager from Manitowoc recently “beat” his way to victory during Hip Hop Week in Milwaukee.
13-year-old Jack Cousins, who goes by 808Jack in the music world, took part in a “Beat Battle”, where producers bring their best hip hop beats and battle for the approval of the crowd and the judges, Conductor Williams and 9th Wonder.
Jack’s mother, Amanda, tells us there were over 1,000 people on hand to watch and listen as 808Jack took home the top prize.
We highlighted Jack’s journey into the hip-hop world last year, where it was noted that his work has been recognized by people all over the country, including world-renowned producer Timbaland, who has worked with talents like Ludacris, Destiny’s Child, Jay Z, and even Madonna.
While she is incredibly proud of her son, Amanda did say she has been keeping a close eye on his online activity because “You can’t let a kid out on social media like that without being right there with him.”
Jack showcased 12 total beats during the competition.
The one above was the most popular among the crowd.
