Two Rivers football is looking to rebound from a down year in 2024.
In their first season in the Northeastern Conference, the Raiders went 1-8.
The team is carrying on many more experienced players than in previous years, ultimately making them a stronger team.
Coach Kevin Shillcox is confident that all the pre-season work his players put in will get them started on the right foot.
“We’re just looking to get off to a good start here in week one against Fox Lutheran,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “We’ve got a lot more mature guys than we had last year going into that season. So we’re optimistic we can and do improve upon what was last year.”
The team worked on bonding with each other by playing 7 on 7 together across the state, including with Manitowoc Lincoln.
The Raiders are looking to continue their tradition of getting into the playoffs, which they missed out on last year.
Senior Noah Shillcox is optimistic that they can make a comeback despite challenges.
“(We aim to) compete against all the teams we play,” he said bluntly. “We know that’s going to be not going to be easy, but we know that we can put up a good fight against any team in our conference this year.”
The players all have a united goal of having a strong season despite the tough conference.
Senior Derek Klinkner is a part of the 21 seniors this year who are all ready to compete and prove themselves.
“(We want to be) better than we were last year,” the signal caller said. “We got a lot of the same guys returning. We should be able to. We’ve been working hard all summer, and now into the season.”
The Raiders will take on Fox Valley Lutheran this coming Friday.
Kick off at Jerry Benino Field will be at 7:00 p.m.
