A mother and her young child are safe after their car ended up in the Menasha marina Tuesday night.
Police were called to the Marina on Center Street just before 9:00 p.m., where they found out the mom had been inside the car with her one-year-old, who was strapped in a car seat.
After the car went into the water, the mom managed to get her child out. Someone nearby ran over, climbed a fence, and helped them.
Two more people then showed up and worked together to make sure both mom and child were safe.
The Menasha Police Department says it appears that the entire incident occurred due to confusion with the car’s controls.
Police Chief Nick Thorn said the quick, caring response from everyone involved shows the best of our community.
The Neenah-Menasha Fire Department also responded.
The investigation is still ongoing.
