A lawyer in Manitowoc is getting his license suspended.
According to documents from the Wisconsin Supreme Court, John Buran will have his license suspended for two and a half years because of professional misconduct.
The court says Buran forged the name of a former employee of his law firm as a witness to nine wills between 2008 and 2020.
He filed six of the wills for probate in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Buran will also have to pay over $9,100 in court costs.
A referee from the Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation recommended an 18-month suspension, but the number of years the signature was forged caused the Wisconsin Supreme Court to give a longer suspension.
The court also stated that it believes the lengthy suspension will serve as a warning to other lawyers attempting to forge signatures when a witness is required for a will.
