The Village of Hilbert in Calumet County is preparing to replace lead service lines.
The village council passed an ordinance to establish a comprehensive program for the removal of lead lines, ensuring quality tap water for residents.
Utility representatives will be visiting homes in the village to inspect those connected to their water system.
A written notice will then be provided to any person or entity who is determined to have a lead service line.
Lead service lines connected to village water mains will be replaced or reconstructed as part of the new ordinance.
The property owner will also be responsible for a portion of the cost of the lead service line.
More information about the new ordinance can be found at the Village of Hilbert Facebook page.
