A retired doctor is giving back to the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA.
Dr. Pradeep Giriyappa announced a generous pledge of $25,000, given over four years, in honor of his late daughter Deena Giriyappa.
Deena lived with physical disabilities, and the doctor’s gift will fund several transformative enhancements to the Y, creating a more accessible and sensory-friendly environment for children and families.
Improvements include an ADA-accessible door opener for the entrance to the Pitz Family Fun Center, as well as a selection of sensory tools and equipment, such as fidgets, dimming light covers, and rocking chairs.
Other items include an accessible swing for the Early Childhood Education playground and sound-dampening ceiling tiles for some classrooms.
Dr. Giriyappa says Deena, “grew up in this community and always felt loved, welcomed, and truly part of it. She had a strong desire to give back and help others in the community. This gift is a small step toward honoring that spirit and continuing the impact she hoped to make.”
Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA Executive Director Julie Grossman said of the donation, “This gift is more than a donation—it is an invitation for every child to belong.”
