The Manitowoc Public School District is partnering with a new organization to help recruit qualified teachers from abroad.
The school board approved an agreement with Teach in the USA, which provides full-service recruitment, onboarding, visa coordination, and other services.
The district is hiring a teacher through the J-1 Cultural Exchange Program.
Teach in the USA will partner with the U.S. State Department for documentation guidelines, Visa interview coaching, and pre-departure orientation.
A candidate who would work in the Manitowoc Public School District would also be screened for subject-matter expertise, English proficiency, and cultural readiness.
Director of Human Services Stacie Opahle says candidates come only on a one-year Visa, but it can be extended to up to five years.
There is also an H-1 B visa available, but the district is not currently looking to hire in that manner.
