While a few local organizations helping people experiencing homelessness have different names, they are all part of a single organization.
A listener asked SeehaferNews.com what the difference is between The Neighborhood, The Manitowoc Warming Shelter, and what’s happening at the former McKinley School.
Pastor Matt Sauer explains that the Neighborhood is the parent organization of the Manitowoc Warming Shelter, with different organizations collaborating to create an affordable transitional housing program in Manitowoc County.
They include the Haven of Manitowoc County, Hope House, and the future Neighborhood Apartments at the former school.
“Think of it like individual schools with a school district,” Sauer explained.
The question comes after a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) was requested for the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Office to be purchased.
While the building could be a permanent home for the shelter, it was the Neighborhood that made the request.
St. Francis of Assisi Parish will be relocating its offices to the new complex and gathering space being built adjacent to the church on Grand Avenue.
The CUP would need to be approved by the Manitowoc Plan Commission and the full Common Council.
