The City of Chilton is warning residents about a non-typical odor in their drinking water.
The smell appears to be coming from the curing of an epoxy primer being applied to reservoir walls at the city’s main water treatment facility as part of a scheduled rehabilitation process.
Director of Public Works Christopher Marx tells the community none of the products came in direct contact with the water supply and, “fumes released during the curing phase may have come in contact, through a fresh air vent, with finished water, causing the faint odor.”
The city states that there is currently no evidence of unsafe drinking water; however, anyone still concerned can opt for bottled water.
Marx says that customers who smell the odor in their water are asked to flush their water through the cold water tap for a couple of minutes until the odor dissipates.
Chilton residents will get an update on water testing once it is done.
