The Wisconsin Maritime Museum continues its countdown to the dry docking of a historic submarine.
A post on their Facebook page states that the U.S.S. Cobia is scheduled to depart for dry docking at Fincantieri Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay on September 4th.
However, the date could change depending on the weather. Cobia’s dry docking has been a long-anticipated milestone, says museum staff.
It will be critical to preserve the World War II-era submarine for future generations.
The maritime museum has raised $1.5 million for the dry docking of the sub, which includes getting $500,000 in the Wisconsin state budget.
Money also came from community donations.
