The City of Sheboygan has addressed rumors making the rounds on social media regarding the demolition of a former lakefront business.
Taylor Zeinert, Sheboygan’s Director of Planning and Development, has said that rumors are being spread online by a blogger claiming the city is hoping to build apartments at the site of the former Pier 17 restaurant that is in the process of being demolished.
While addressing the rumors, Zeinert stated, “While demolition for Pier 17 (539 Riverfront Drive) has begun, the City has not had any discussions with any developers about that site. At this time, the City is not aware of any proposed plans for apartments or any specific redevelopment on the property.”
She added that the City has only recently been in communication with the property owner for the demolition process and permits.
Zeinert clarified that speculation online has grown due to what the unnamed blogger has perpetuated.
In the event Sheboygan does receive any formal development plans, they will be publicly vetted through both committee and Common Council approval.
