A Manitowoc business that is used to locking people in will soon be locking people out.
What The Lock?, located at 1130 Washington Street, has announced that, after nine years of challenging guests’ brains, they will be closing up shop for good at the end of August.
Kurt and Tiffany Duzeski have weathered many storms since they opened, including a burst pipe in 2018 and a forced shutdown during the COVID pandemic, always finding a way to come out the other side.
However, as they put it, “Even the best escape artists sometimes hit a lock they can’t pick.”
They cited the rising cost of rent, utilities, admin programs, supplies, wages, and mounting debt as the main reason for the closure.
The escape rooms built inside What The Lock? have not only been a challenging and enjoyable experience for residents and visitors alike, but those in the industry have praised the Duzeskis for their innovative rooms, honoring them with recognitions from TERPECA and the Escape Room Bullseye Awards.
Their vampire-themed room, Vlad: The Third Letter, earned the title of Players’ Choice Best Room in the World.
You can read the full letter to the public on the What the Lock? Facebook page.
