Manitowoc’s 19u American Legion baseball team begins play in the 97th Class AAA American Legion state baseball tournament this afternoon.
Post 88 plays Middleton at 4:30 p.m. in their first game of the double-elimination tournament at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point.
Manitowoc enters the tournament with a 19-9 record, having defeated Kimberly 13-2 last Friday night to advance.
Middleton is 17 and 4, going 3 and 0 in the Beloit regional, defeating Milwaukee 2 to 1 in 8 innings last Thursday.
A victory by Post 88 advances them to the winner’s bracket Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. against Appleton or Stevens Point.
A loss would send them into the consolation bracket Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 against the loser of the Appleton-Stevens Point game.
Play will continue throughout the week with a champion to be crowned on Saturday.
The champion and runner-up both advance to the Great Lakes Regional in Carol Stream, Illinois, from August 6th through the 10th.
