A man was talked off an overpass in Fond du Lac during a mental health crisis.
A Deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was on a regular patrol route on Thursday night (July 24th) when he witnessed an unidentified man sitting on the edge of the South Main Street overpass above Highway 151.
The Deputy approached the man in an attempt to help him; however, the individual would not comply with the Deputy’s requests.
An officer with the Fond du Lac Police Department trained in crisis negotiations arrived on scene and was able to make contact with the man.
While speaking with the officer, the man displayed a knife and began harming himself, and was also seen taking an unknown amount of medications during their conversation.
After approximately 90 minutes of negotiating with the man, he walked away from the ledge and went with law enforcement.
He was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Fond du Lac to receive medical treatment for his self-inflicted injuries.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted during the mental health crisis by Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.
