A semi driver was rescued from his vehicle after a crash in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was called just before 1:45 a.m. yesterday (July 23rd) on a report of a semi truck that entered the ditch on Highway 151 in the Town of Fond du Lac.
The initial call also told authorities that they were unable to check the driver’s status as he was trapped under paper bales that had come through the front of the trailer upon impact.
Arriving emergency crews witnessed two good Samaritans on scene attempting to assist the driver out from the wreckage.
Law enforcement, along with the help of the good Samaritans, were eventually able to get the driver, a 60-year-old New Holstein man, from the cab.
He was then transported to a local hospital with serious injuries before being flown via Theda Star helicopter to a second medical facility for treatment.
Initial investigations show that the driver attempted to exit Highway 151 but failed to slow down in time to safely make the off-ramp.
The driver continued into the ditch, causing a truck load of large paper bales to break through the front of the trailer, landing on top of the semi’s cab, trapping the driver inside.
No additional updates were provided regarding the driver’s health, and the crash remains under investigation.
