An individual is under investigation after a hit and run in the City of Menasha.
The Menasha Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Appleton Road just after noon on Friday (July 18th) on a report of a car accident with injuries.
The initial call also reported that one of the vehicles involved had left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Shortly after, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received calls stating that the vehicle that fled the scene was seen driving recklessly in Menasha.
The vehicle was then located near Third and Racine Streets, and a traffic stop was initiated; however, the driver, a 19-year-old male, continued to flee.
The driver would come to a stop in a driveway before exiting the vehicle and locking himself in a residence in the 300 block of Naymut Street.
Verbal contact was made with the suspect, who would later tell police he was involved in the crash yet refused to exit the residence.
Authorities gained knowledge that the apartment was occupied by others, including a young child, so the decision was made not to force entry to protect their safety.
Menasha and Fox Crossing Police Departments have said they will be referring charges of Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Eluding, and Failing to Comply with Officers’ Attempts to Take a Person into Custody, amongst others, to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office.
