Manitowoc Public Utilities has released a public notice regarding a high-flow event at its wastewater treatment facility.
Communications Manager Jennie Nelson tells Seehafer News.com that approximately 100-thousand gallons of partially treated wastewater entered Lake Michigan due to over 4 inches of rain falling Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
Nelson adds that portions of the wastewater plant are under construction, so normal treatment capacity couldn’t handle the excess amount of water.
MPU’s water department was notified, and there is no public harm to the municipal drinking water, nor is any public exposure or harm expected.
