The City of Manitowoc’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area or DORA, officially started on Friday (July 11th).
Visit Manitowoc described the DORA as a way to allow patrons who visit certain licensed establishments the opportunity to sip and stroll through downtown while enjoying the city’s vibrant riverfront, parks, public art, and local businesses while being able to take an alcoholic beverage with them.
The beverages are only allowed to be carried in city-approved, unbreakable, transparent, or semi-transparent containers marked with an official sticker and the name of the participating business.
It operates from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. within the designated area of downtown Manitowoc and will run until October 31st of this year.
City Tourism Director Courtney Hansen said the DORA is an enjoyable way to encourage citizens and visitors to enjoy the fresh air and riverfront during the warmer months.
The zone includes Burger Boat Park, Shipbuilders Company Park, and the River Point District, all of which are ideal places to savor your favorite drink.
Restaurants and businesses that are participating include Brick’s Downtown Bar & Grill, Chewy’s, Craft Creek Brewing Company, Digger Dave’s, Legend Larry’s, Pizza Garden, Shoot the Bull, The Shrunken Head, and Wrap It Up.
The city reminds residents that all laws regarding legal drinking age, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and traffic rules still apply.
Patrons should reach out to a taxicab or the SafeRide Program for a reliable way home if needed.
