The Wisconsin State Senate may miss its deadline to pass the upcoming fiscal year budget.
This development comes as internal disagreements within the Republican majority emerge.
Senator Chris Kapenga of Delafield has expressed dissatisfaction with both Governor Tony Evers’ budget plan and the version proposed by the Joint Finance Committee, suggesting he’d rather see the current budget continue.
Senator Steve Nass has also criticized the process, calling it possibly the worst he’s seen in his 35-year career.
With a narrow 18-15 GOP majority, just two Republican defections could block the budget if all Democrats oppose it.
