The City of Manitowoc has created a new board.
The Common Council approved the creation of the Visit Manitowoc Board, which will serve as an advisory committee to the city’s Room Tax Commission.
City Attorney Eric Nycz says everyone who joins will represent the tourism industry.
“We are gaining expertise, and we view this as a big win,” he told SeehaferNews.com.
Members will be selected by Mayor Justin Nickels and approved by the council.
However, the Manitowoc Area Visitors and Convention Bureau will also get to pick members to join the board.
Nycz says while there have been disagreements between the two entities, the city believes in their input for tourism.
“It is the case that we are happy to work with them and utilize what we can,” he explained. “Because the more visitors that come into the city the better off we all are.”
The new Visit Manitowoc Board will also advise the Room Tax Commission on what money should be spent where.
The Room Tax Commission is a body of the city that decides where room tax dollars should go.
Mayor Nickels has said previously that the dollar should only go toward tourism.
