Three schools from Manitowoc County will participate in an annual solar competition at UW-Oshkosh.
The 29th annual Wisconsin Public Service Solar Olympics competition gets underway today (May 7th) from 9 a.m. to 12:30 pm at the Culver Family Welcome Center.
Teams from Kiel, Mishicot, and Valders High Schools will be on hand to demonstrate what they have learned about solar energy throughout this school year.
Participants will go for the gold in 13 different events, using their skills to build solar-powered devices or create items inspired by solar energy.
Some of the events will include creating a solar car for a race, as well as challenges for solar building design, solar essays, and photography.
The top finishers in each event will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The top three teams will also be recognized.
Last year, Valders High School students won multiple gold medals for winning four competitions.
