Two people were arrested after a Manitowoc child was treated at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with evidence of child abuse.
A forensic interview was conducted at the Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center in Saukville with staff from Children’s Hospital and a Manitowoc Police Detective, where 56 images were collected, which documented the child’s injuries.
The extent of the injuries was redacted, however, it was noted that some appeared “to be consistent with some type of instrument” being used.
The victim, whose age and gender were redacted, spoke with the detective, where they recalled numerous fights between the two suspects, including one where the 36-year-old man called the 30-year-old woman a racial slur and hit her with a glass, baskets, and other household items.
The victim depicted several incidents of abuse, including one where the man threw a hot sauce bottle at them on their birthday and called her a derogatory term for women.
It appears as though there were multiple victims, as the police reports states the victim told police that the man “hits all (redacted) with a white phone charger.”
The victim also claimed the man would use items such as a belt, which they called the “monster”, and a wooden spoon to strike them.
The woman was also allegedly involved in the abuse, as the victim claimed she has burnt them, hit them with a wooden spoon, and smoked drugs in front of them.
When interviewed by police, the man directed blame at the woman, while the woman initially denied any involvement or drug use.
When shown the photos of the injuries, the woman admitted to striking the child.
Both suspects were arrested on charges of Physical Abuse of a Child and Child Neglect, while the man was also given a Probation Hold.
