As bird flu continues to spread, it has now been confirmed in Sheboygan County.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has confirmed a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in a commercial poultry flock in the county.
Currently, DATCP and U.S. Department of Agriculture animal health officials are working together as an estimated 40,000 birds have been affected.
The farm where the case was confirmed has been quarantined to restrict the movement of the birds themselves or poultry products.
The DATCP has also confirmed that birds from the flock will not enter the food system but rather will be depopulated.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Sheboygan County Public Health workers are now monitoring the status of farm workers who had been in contact with the infected birds, however, no updates were provided on whether they are showing symptoms of bird flu.
This confirmation of bird flu in Sheboygan County comes after additional cases have been reported in the area, including the Villages of Little Chute and Howard.
