A Menasha man will serve prison time after stealing from multiple vehicles.
According to court records, 18-year-old Tristan Backus will spend three years in prison plus six years on probation after he pleaded no contest to eight charges in February.
They include burglary of a building or dwelling, multiple counts of theft of movable property, and entry into a locked vehicle.
Eleven other charges were dismissed but read into the record.
Backus will also have to pay over $11,000 in restitution and must maintain absolute sobriety.
The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office was called to the fire lane area on the north shore of Lake Winnebago in the Village of Harrison in November last year after numerous items, including guns, were taken by Backus.
He was later arrested at a gas station in Menasha in December.
Most of the vehicles from which the items were stolen were unlocked.
Authorities remind residents to always lock their vehicles and move valuable items out of sight.
