Three finalists, including the current interim, have been picked to be the next superintendent of the Manitowoc Public School District.
Lee Thennes is one of the candidates chosen, along with Randall Consolidated School Principal and Curriculum Director Ron Rivard and Associate Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee John Soper.
Rivard began teaching math and writing at Oak Creek East Middle School before becoming an associate middle school principal.
He was also the director of curriculum at Waterford Grade School and the director of Instruction in Waukesha.
Soper began his career teaching in Texas and internationally in Saudi Arabia.
He also was a teacher and assistant principal in Des Moines, Iowa, before becoming a principal for the South Bend Community Corporation in Indiana.
Thennes has been in the Manitowoc Public School District for most of his career, serving as a principal at Wilson Middle School before becoming principal at Lincoln.
Final interviews for the three candidates will take place this Friday (April 4th).
They will include a facilities tour, interviews with students, staff, and communities’ members, and a final interview with the Board of Education.
MPSD’s next superintendent will officially sign a contract in July.
The district is getting help with candidates through the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.
