One of the newest members of the Wisconsin Assembly is urging her constituents not to support a Republican-authored bill.
Sheboygan Falls Republican Lindee Brill says at the Right of First Refusal Bill (ROFR) “is being sold as a measure that will keep energy rates lower for state ratepayers, when in reality, is an attempt to dispense with competitive bidding over new transmission projects coming to Wisconsin.”
She continues by saying that examining the realities of ROFR shows that many legislators and Governor Tony Evers plan to side with energy companies over everyday Wisconsinites.
Brill also says she has little faith in the state’s Public Service Commission (PSC) to keep an expected energy monopoly in check, citing the PSC’s refusal to take statements about a proposed reliability project in Plymouth.
Senator Devin LeMahieu, who helped author the bill, says it will save Wisconsinites’ money and not have to fully front the cost of energy lines that would be built.
Manitowoc Public Utilities announced support for the bill.
