Law enforcement agencies are warning the community of another scam that has reemerged.
Fraudulent text messages have been circulating to residents in Northeastern Wisconsin, falsely claiming that an individual owes road toll fees.
The text messages continue to say that failure to pay these false toll fees may result in increased charges or being reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Authorities warn that these text messages are not from legitimate toll agencies but rather from scammers looking to steal personal information from victims.
Anyone who receives one of these messages is urged not to click on any links in the message or provide any personal details in response.
While this is in reference to a post made by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, more locally, Manitowoc and Sheboygan County residents, including members of the Seehafer Broadcasting news team, have confirmed they’ve received such text messages.
If you receive a message that appears to be suspicious or the work of scammers, contact your local law enforcement agency.
