The Manitowoc County Health Department is keeping its eye on the bird flu epidemic.
Department Director Korina Aghmar explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest that the department would be getting more involved if there was a human case, but there haven’t been any cases so far.
But, the Manitowoc County health expert explained humans have contracted the disease mostly among dairy and poultry workers.
Aghmar says right now the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is ranking the bird flu as a very low public health risk right now.
From a public health perspective, health officials want anyone who finds a dead bird or birds to report it by calling 608-267-0866.
Aghmar says the most important thing to do if you see a dead bird is, “Don’t touch them.”
As we’ve reported, bird flu cases have been reported in the Villages of Little Chute and Howard.
