A legendary area TV broadcaster has announced his retirement.
WBAY TV announced on Monday (March 3rd) that Bill Jartz is hanging up the mic after a long career with the Green Bay TV station.
He started working for WBAY in Green Bay in 1983 as a sports reporter.
After stepping away briefly, he returned as Sports Director in 1993. After that, he took a job as an evening news anchor and the rest is history.
Jartz has also been a good friend of Seehafer Broadcasting.
He has appeared numerous times on WOMT’s Be My Guest program and has also appeared on an episode of the On the Line podcast discussing his second job as the public address announcer for the Green Bay Packers.
He told the guys about his audition for the job and about a time were he almost got in trouble for being too enthusiastic.
It’s been fixed but he said on the podcast that Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur likes it loud.
“It used to be big on third downs or on key downs. You kind of get that feeling where this is a big down,” he explained. “Now, it’s pretty much every play. I mean, he wants that place rockin.”
Jartz has been honored for his charitable efforts, which includes awards for volunteering and a lifetime achievement award.
WOMT’s Lee Douglas calls Jartz one of the most non-selfish people, willing to help any group or organization if they need it.
His last day on the air will be in May.
