
Police in Sheboygan called in a Milwaukee County explosive team after finding a suspicious item downtown.
The Sheboygan Police Department received a call yesterday (March 4th) at 8:43 a.m. to report the item in the 1300 block of New York Avenue.
Arriving officers were able to locate the item, evacuate residents who lived in the area, and close off North 14th Street.
The Milwaukee County Explosives and Ordinance Disposal Unit was brought in to safely address the device.
The Milwaukee County team was able to confirm that the item did not contain explosives and posed no danger.
During SPD’s investigation, a suspect in the case was identified and located.
The suspect, a 42-year-old Sheboygan man, was subsequently arrested, and his charges will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
The Sheboygan Police Department was assisted by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Sheboygan Fire Department, Sheboygan Department of Public Works, and Shoreline Metro.
