One person has died following a car crash in Fond du Lac County over the weekend.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Communications Center received numerous 911 calls on March 1st at approximately 1:45 a.m. reporting a car crash on Highway 26 in the Township of Waupun.
Initial investigations from Sheriff’s Deputies revealed that a southbound vehicle passed over the centerline on Highway 26 and struck a northbound box truck head on.
The driver and sole occupant of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene, while the driver of the box truck was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Authorities have stated that alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the fatal crash.
Highway 26 was closed for approximately four hours to facilitate emergency response operations and to allow the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team to conduct its investigation.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its response by the City of Waupun Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Waupun County Fire Department, Lifestar Emergency Medical Service, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.
