The Manitowoc Noon Rotary has honored five individuals who have helped keep Manitowoc safe.
During a special ceremony at the Capitol Civic Center Thursday night (February 27th), the Rotary named their 2024 Firefighter, Police Officer, and Citizens of the Year.
Lieutenant Scott Larson was named the Firefighter of the Year for his exemplary service, leadership, and commitment to mentoring new firefighters.
Since joining the department in 2000, Lt. Larsen has upheld the highest standards of public safety, playing a vital role in training recruits and inspiring the next generation of firefighters.
Officer Nick Place was named the Police Officer of the Year.
Since joining the department in 2013, Officer Place has made significant contributions to drug enforcement and education.
As a K9 handler, SWAT team operator, and instructor for law enforcement training programs, he has dedicated his career to improving public safety. Earning the Police Department’s Citizen of the Year honor was Stephanie Young.
She was praised for her quick-thinking and compassionate actions in rescuing a four-year-old boy found wandering in the middle of the street.
The Fire Department’s Citizen of the Year award was actually given to two people, Gregory and Thomas Augustine.
They were recognized for their heroic rescue of two young girls caught in a dangerous rip current in Lake Michigan.
Without hesitation, they risked their own safety to save the children, preventing what could have been a tragic loss.
