The City of Manitowoc continues to move forward with developing the former mall property.
The city’s Plan Commission held a public hearing and then approved the rezoning of land between E. Reed Avenue, Johnston Drive, and Holley Drive.
The land was previously marked for businesses but will be changed into residential and multi-family property.
Tycore Inc. out of Green Bay is proposing building 177 apartments and up to 41 single- and two-family homes.
Deputy City Planner Paul Braun says the rezoning is restricted to just residential development.
Since the Plan Commission has approved the change, it will be sent to the full Common Council in March to be fully approved.
The former mall property was officially purchased by the city in April last year after it was blighted the year before.
The investment in the former mall properties would be about $70 million.
