Officials are expecting Bird Flu is to blame for a recent mortality event impacting Outagamie County.
The Village of Little Chute has announced that they have been addressing the removal and disposal of a large number of waterfowl carcasses from Buchanan Pond, the village’s storm pond property.
Little Chute has stated they are working with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to investigate the incident as the high number of waterfowl deaths appear to be associated with Avian Influenza, more commonly known as Bird Flu.
The nationwide outbreak of Bird Flu has hurt farmers, consumers, and the U.S. bird population, and has been seen as a driving force behind egg prices skyrocketing, beginning last year.
As we previously reported, this is the second Bird flu-related incident in Northeastern Wisconsin within three months, as 17 dead geese were collected from Duck Creek Quarry in Howard in December.
Testing done by the DNR confirmed these deaths were caused by Bird Flu.
