The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued deadlines for the removal of ice shanties.
While deadlines vary throughout the state, shanties on any inland waters south of Highway 64 are to be removed no later than Sunday (March 2nd).
This includes Lake Winnebago, the Winnebago Upriver Lakes, and all other lakes in our area.
Shanties on Lake Michigan, Green Bay, Lake Superior, and inland waters north of Highway 64 must be removed by March 16th.
However, portable ice shanties that are removed at the end of each day can still be used.
Anyone in need of assistance when removing a shanty is asked by the DNR to contact local fishing clubs, vendors, and other anglers for help.
They also request ice anglers to check the status of ice conditions with local fishing clubs and bait shops before going out on the ice to remove a shanty.
Additional information regarding the deadline dates for the removal of shanties can be found online at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
