Sheboygan’s Public Works Committee is set to discuss the permanent closure of one of the city’s streets.
At the committee’s meeting to be held tonight (February 25th) at 5:00 p.m., a resolution to vacate and discontinue portions of North Commerce Street will be discussed.
If approved, two sections of Commerce Street would be vacated, including between Pennsylvania and New York Avenues, along with the stretch of road between Wisconsin and Niagara Avenues.
The portion between Pennsylvania and New York would be rebuilt and eventually reopened while the portion between Wisconsin and Niagara would be vacated permanently because “Commerce Street in this location is no longer required by the city.”
This vacation of Commerce Street would allow the city to construct housing options in the area previously approved by the Sheboygan Common Council.
If approved by the Public Works Committee, appropriate documents would be filed with the county, and a Certified Survey Map would be presented to the Common Council for review and approval, establishing the new right of way on Commerce Street.
