The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has awarded millions of dollars in grant funding, including in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
This $6 million in funding has been awarded to lake organizations, nonprofits, and municipal or county governments.
Manitowoc County’s biggest benefactor will be the Town of Schleswig, which received over $55,000 in funding to combat invasive species on Cedar Lake.
Glacierland Resource Conservation and Development was awarded nearly $27,000 to also fight invasives and to participate in the Lake Monitoring and Protection Network (LMPN).
In Sheboygan County, the Elkhart Lake Water Quality Project received $93,000, one of the largest grants in the state, to implement its water management plan and combat invasives.
The Cedar Grove-Belgium School District was awarded $25,000 and will use the funds to convert 25 acres of farmland into a naturalized wetland system.
The Sheboygan itself was also on the receiving end of more than $12,000 to further its work with the LMPN.
This funding is aimed at improving and restoring the state’s surface water resources in 2025 and beyond.
