Congressman Glenn Grothman is calling for a reform to the welfare system.
During a Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services hearing last week, the Glenbeulah native held a conversation with Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation and Patrice Onwuka of the Center for Economic Opportunity at Independent Women.
He asked Rector about their spending, to which he said, “We don’t even know how much money we spend. There’s no federal record of total spending on means-tested programs for children.”
Onwuka also noted that an estimated 60% of able-bodied adults are on Medicaid, calling it ”a problem that needs to be fixed.”
Grothman, who is the Chairman of the Subcommittee, promised that, during this session, his group will “work with the Trump Administration to cut back on unnecessary government spending and empower American workers and families through reforms to the deficient welfare state.”
