The Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Lakeshore spread a little love with their home-delivered meals on Valentine’s Day.
Along with the nutritious meal, the food deliverers also gave a rose to those who have trouble getting out of the house.
Emily Siemers, the Senor Nutrition Program Supervisor with the ADRC, tells SeehaferNews.com that the program was made possible thanks to a partnership with Wish for a Lifetime, and of course, an army of volunteers.
“Right now, we actually do have some openings for some needs for our home-delivered meal program,” Siemers noted. “That can be anywhere from once a month to on a weekly occurrence. It’s about an hour-and-a-half to two-hour commitment.
They definitely need those volunteers, as the number of participants in the program grew, specifically for the Valentine’s Day event.
“On a daily basis, we serve about 150 meals out of the Manitowoc Senior Center,” Siemers explained. “And then we were able to get some in the Two Rivers area to which they serve about 80 to 100 meals per day.”
Siemers was very happy that she and her team were able to bring smiles to the faces of so many in the area.
She said, “I think it’s a great way to not only share love on this special day, but also with some warm food and connection with the community.”
Each menu constructed by the ADRC team is reviewed by a registered dietitian and follows state standards.
The group is also looking to teach people more about putting together a healthy diet through its Stepping up Your Nutrition class, which will be held this coming spring.
