Valentine’s Day is upon us, meaning gifts of chocolates, flowers, and ballons will be bestowed upon loved ones everywhere.
Wisconsin Public Service is reminding everyone of the dangers of letting those balloons fly through the sky.
Mylar balloons, the ones that have a slight metal feel to them, pose a risk of knocking out power if they were to come into contact with power lines or other electrical equipment.
This can also cause the power lines to break, and come falling to the ground, causing a major risk for electrocution.
So, if you do get a balloon for Valentine’s Day, you are encouraged to ensure they are tied securely, and will not float away.
If you do come across a balloon tangled in wires, do not touch it.
WPS also encourages couples to celebrate the day by assembling an emergency kit together, cooking a simple meal, or purchasing a carbon monoxide detector together.
