The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its correctional officers.
Sheriff Craig Reukauf has announced that Dylan Bellamy passed away on Saturday.
Authorities say Bellamy was struck by a vehicle while walking along a highway near Mattoon, Illinois.
Bellamy, who joined the Sheriff’s Office in December 2023, was in Illinois for training with his Army National Guard unit.
The incident is currently under investigation.
