Nine employees at the Waupun Correctional Institution have been fired as part of an ongoing federal investigation into smuggling activities, with two others resigning.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) confirmed that the workers were initially placed on leave when the investigation began, but not all of them are tied to the alleged smuggling.
William Homan, a former prison maintenance worker, pleaded guilty to bribery charges last fall after admitting to accepting payments from inmates to smuggle contraband into the facility.
The investigation is still underway.
