The Dane County Sheriff’s Office has withdrawn from the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program, which had previously involved sharing immigration status information of former inmates in exchange for federal funding.
Sheriff Kalvin Barrett announced the decision, citing concerns raised by the community and the actions taken during the Trump administration.
The program had provided over $600,000 to the Sheriff’s Office during Trump’s first term, according to reports from the Cap Times.
