An area state representative is working on a bill to prevent “government overreach and protecting the free expression of religion.”
3rd District Assemblyman Ron Tusler wants to reintroduce a joint resolution that would become a Wisconsin constitutional amendment that would make it illegal to “order the closer of or forbid gatherings in places of worship in a state of emergency at the national, state, or local level, including an emergency related to public health.”
The resolution came out of the COVID-19 pandemic when businesses, churches, and other establishments were shut down to prevent the spread of the disease.
Tusler says Governor Tony Evers violated people’s freedoms with mask mandates and stay-at-home orders.
He also said on WOMT’s Be My Guest program, “If a situation like that occurs again, he’ll (Evers) have to make the case why folks shouldn’t do it, instead of using the force of law to prevent them from seeing their priest or their pastor or whoever they worship with.”
If the resolution passes, it would go to the voters to be included in the Wisconsin Constitution.
Tusler says he is also working on other legislation, like fixing wage garnishments.
He also told Seehafernew.com in December that he would like to create a lifetime fishing license.
